The book title? The cover design? The price? The author? The genre? Do you read the book blurb and then decide? Can you remember the last book you purchased and what prompted you to buy it?

Title and genre....don't look at author or price.

When I look at a book Abe, the first thing that catches my eye will be the cover, most likely. Depending on my mood, likely genre too, although I read a wide range of books and articles. Once I pick it up, I like to flip the book over and read the back cover,

Pam, I too am attracted to the cover and the title. If that doesn't grab me, I look no further. I'm pleased with the cover design of my latest novel. They did an excellent job and it is symbolic of the story.

Hi Abe, I tend to go for specific genres only and will look at the title of the book and then read the synopsis. If those two things grab me, then I start reading the first few paragraphs.

The cover will attract me but I tend to go for genre first and I also tend to read the same authors. If I like one book by an author I usually go back to see what else he or she has written. But if it's an author I know nothing about, I'll flip to the synopsis. If I like the story Idea, I might check the first page, to see if I like the writing style.

Joy, thanks for your input. I think the synopsis is the biggest criteria in buying once the attention is grabbed by the title or the cover. Having a favorite author normally has little if anything to do with the purchase. You just know you'll like what they wrote. Perhaps we as authors will one day enjoy that status. At least we can hope.
